1. Please introduce yourself.
My name is CableHare, and I am an electrical plug man who makes digital stuff.
2. How long have you been making websites?
I've done it on and off since around 2018, but I only started to lock in around mid-2026.
3. And what got you into the hobby?
The need to consolidate my vast internet presence in one place and also the work of my friend Beth (maccawtpi).
4. What kind of website are you most interested in?
I don't have a favorite type of website because honestly, I don't check out the indieweb very often. I will give a shoutout to Newgrounds though because Newgrounds is the GOAT for expressing yourself. It's in the motto: "Everything by Everyone." (Also go follow me on Newgrounds)
5. What's your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?
I improvised this website.
6. Please link to your biggest inspirations.
In terms of website design, mostly maccawtpi and TabF5.
7. What's your favourite part about making websites?
Seeing my shit work.
8. And the thing you struggle with the most?
Pulling through when my shit doesn't work.
9. Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?
Same layout for the most part. Trying to navigate a site where every page has a completely different layout feels like this.
10. How confident are you with CSS?
I think I know it well enough to be able to make what I need with it.
11. Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?
NERRRRRRRRRRRRRRD
12. What is your favourite HTML element?
It's gotta be <grid>. <grid> is what organizes my buttons and <grid> is also what lets me have a site with a neat sticky header and a neat footer. Ily <grid> 💖
13. If you're making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?
Choose a font.
14. Do you know JavaScript?
A little bit.
15. How about PHP?
Nope. Don't need it for this site.
16. Does your website have a theme that you stick to?
Yes, because I don't need my site to feel like a maze.
17. Are you more focused on content or design?
Content. I try to get the design out of the way so I can actually get to the good stuff.
18. Do you own a domain name? If not, would you ever want to?
Yup! You're on it right now!
19. What do you think of nostalgia-focused or "retro" websites?
#SoRetro (I'm indifferet towards them)
20. Is your HTML valid? Do you even check?
Should be. VSCode throws the ol' reliable red squiggly line if something in my HTML isn't right.
21. What are your opinion on buttons and banners?
Buttons (especially the 88x31 kind) are pretty cool and I like how they're not all in your face. I don't really care for anything other than the 88x31 button though.
22. What do you think of button walls in particular?
They can get pretty noisy if the button wall has a lot of buttons. That's why my button wall is reserved for friends only.
23. If you started over again, would you make something similar or completely different?
Something similar. I'm content with my site as is right now.
24. Are you envious of other people's websites?
I mostly envy other people's ability to actually get shit done. Their websites absolutely mogging mine is the cherry on top.
25. What text editor do you use?
VS Code.
26. Why do you use that one?
Because it's convenient and it pairs well with GitHub.
27. Do you host your image files on your web server, or on another host?
On my own web server. It's just more convienient and some image hosts like Imgur are banned in certain countries.
28. This might not be relevant to you, but what's your opinion on the Neocities vs. Nekoweb debate?
I prefer Neocities because of its social networking features and its more neutral theme compared to the "rawr :3" aesthetic Nekoweb has. Nekoweb is fine, though.
29. How much server space would you estimate your main website takes up?
Around 8.5 MB according to WizTree.
30. Do you keep local backups of your files?
No, but I should look into that.
31. Do you prefer simple or highly visual websites?
Simple visuals. Highly visual websites are a pain in the ass to make and imo once your website looks presentable, you don't really need to try that hard on the visuals.
32. Do you stick to certain colours? Do you do that on purpose, or is it your subconscious?
I stick to a color pallete of mostly yellows and greens to match my sona character.
33. Have you ever thought about quitting? Why?
No, because I like having a website :)
34. Do you have many webmaster friends, or is it a solitary hobby?
I have a few (Beth, thanks for reminding me to finish my site).
35. Do people in your real life know about your website?
Nope.
36. Do you update your website very often? How often is "very often"?
I have a cycle where I focus on my site for a couple of days and then proceed to neglect it in favor of other projects for a couple of weeks lol
37. And the overall design, do you change that much? Why or why not?
I don't change the design often. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
38. Is your website more you-focused, hobby-focused, or outside world-focused?
Mostly me-focused, though it's more focused on my creative works than me as a person.
39. Do you do web design professionally?
Nope.
40. If not, would you like to? And if you're comfortable answering, what do you do for work?
I'm considering it.
41. Do you communicate with people by email very much?
Not really, though I do have a public email.
42. Some people reject social media and use websites as a replacement. Do you keep social media outside of your website?
I have A TON OF SOCIALS. In fact, the main reason why this website exists is so that I can consolidate my internet presence into one place.
43. How about instant messengers? Do you use a mainstream one like Discord or Telegram? Or something like Matrix? Do you avoid them?
I use Discord and I run a Discord server (though it's dead as fuck right now lol).
44. Do you listen to music while you work on websites? If so, what kinds of artists?
Sometimes. If I do listen to music, it's likely gonna be Caparezza.
45. Do you keep everything you make on one website, or do you have more than one?
I just have cablehare.com (as well as dragonaero.net, which is my old username). I don't really need another website right now.
46. On a similar note, do you keep to one topic on your site, or many?
My creative works are varied, so naturally, the topics on this site are too.
47. Do you present your real self, or at least try? Or do you construct a persona on purpose?
For privacy reasons, I avoid talking about my real life self here or anywhere on the web whenever I can. That's why I represent myself as an anthropomorphic electrical plug online.
48. Have you ever made a good friend thanks to your website?
Yup! Hi TabF5 :)
49. Are you happy with the way HTML and CSS currently work?
No complaints. It works just fine.
50. What are practices that you think people should avoid?
Don't make splash pages. Websites have homepages for a reason!
51. What about under-utilised practices, or things you think people should do more?
Use semantic HTML. It makes your HTML files much more readable.
52. Do you use a lot of semantic HTML? Or are you guilty of generic structure?
I use semantic HTML. Matter of fact, reading these questionnaires is what taught me about semantic HTML lol
53. Do you consider different browsers?
Not too often, but occassionaly I open up my site on Google Chrome.
54. Speaking of, what's your preferred browser? Convince your readers why they should use it.
I prefer Firefox because it ain't Chrome and it sure as shit ain't Microsoft Edge.
55. And what OS are you on?
Windows 10.
56. Do you have a strong opinion on that, or do you just happen to use it?
Microsoft fumbled HARD when they first released Windows 11. Even though they've improved it since then, I'm still too skeptical to make the switch.
57. Are your websites mobile-friendly?
Yup!
58. What are your thoughts on autoplay?
Not a fan, especially if there's no warning.
59. What are your thoughts on webrings? Are you in any?
I'm largely indifferent towards them. I'm only in two: the Godotring and the Touhou webring. I don't plan to join any more though because a lot of the webrings I applied to didn't get back to me until weeks later and also there's no consistency with webring widgets, unlike with website buttons.
60. Do you have any web shrines? What do you like to see in that sort of page?
The first thing I thought of when I read that question was this. I think I'll pass, twin
61. Are your websites "cliche", in your opinion?
If my website (or me in general) is cliche, then please tell me to wrap it up twin 🙏
62. What is your ideal website? Are you striving for that, or for something else?
Anything that isn't trying to scam you, shove ads in your face, or redirect you to some mobile app.
63. Are you an artist? Do you draw or design your own assets?
I'm a 3D artist, although I still have a lot to learn. Don't even ask about my 2D art though. I can't draw for shit lol
64. What are your favourite resource sites?
The GOATS: MDN Web Docs and W3Schools.
65. Is there a habit you just can't get away from no matter how hard you try?
Procrastination.
66. What's your biggest advice for a new webmaster?
If working on one part of the website is frustrating you, focus on a different part of your website!
67. Do you keep all your styling in CSS? Or do you hard-code some?
I try to keep all of my styling in CSS whenever I can. I only hard-code CSS styling in my HTML file if I know for sure that I won't need to use that specific styling again.
68. What do you think of frameset layouts?
Never heard of them.
69. How about table-based layouts?
Never heard of those either.
70. Do you subscribe to the ideas of "one-column", "two-column" and "three-column" layouts? Do you use any of these?
I don't think about site design that way, but my site uses a one-column layout.
71. Do you spend longer on the HTML or the CSS?
I spend a lot more time on HTML. I already wrote most of the CSS styling I need.
72. Have you ever made a page with no CSS? It's useful for your thoughts.
I just use sticky notes to write down important thoughts.
73. Do you ever find yourself making layouts with nothing to put on them? Or do you only make layouts when the need arises?
I make layouts when I need them.
74. Would you consider yourself a beginner? Or advanced? Somewhere in the middle?
I'd be somewhere in the middle. I'm not a pro at web dev but I know a lot more than I did five months ago lol.
75. Do you have a habit of looking at the source code of websites you visit?
I do that a lot, especially when I get stuck in a rut while making my website.
76. How did YOU learn how to make websites?
MDN Web Docs, W3Schools, and looking at the source code of other websites.
77. Do you ever force elements to do things they're not supposed to?
Nope.
78. Thoughts on floating elements?
Never heard of those.
79. When you're sizing stuff, what do you use first? Do you use px, em, %, or something else?
Mostly % and rem.
80. Do you have a favourite font?
Not really, but I gravitate towards simpler fonts.
81. Would you run a website with another person? How would that work?
I'd only be up to it if I'm working with close friends. Otherwise, nope! That shit sounds like a gr*up pr*ject!
82. Do you surf the Web to find new personal websites very often?
Not really.
83. Do you bookmark other people's websites? How would you feel knowing someone else bookmarked yours?
If I like someone's site, I just follow their socials. Though if I found out that someone bookmarked my site, I'd be pretty happy :)
84. What do you want people to be most impressed with when they see your website?
My creative works, which are listed here (though the page is pretty barren at the moment lol)
85. Are you interested in technology outside of websites? Do you collect?
I don't really collect stuff.
86. How often and for how long are you online?
Way too often.
87. When it comes to your website, who is your target audience?
Anyone who is 13 years or older and is interested in my creative works. If you're not 13 years old yet, then please get off of my site and play outside with your friends or something; a lot of my content is not kid-friendly and would probably horrify your parents if they saw you looking at it.
88. Have you ever been interested in XHTML?
Nope. HTML is all I need.
89. Do you program in general? Have you ever written a program for use with or on your website, not counting simple JavaScript?
I make games. As for web programming, most of the JavaScript code I have written for this website is backend stuff.
90. Speaking of programs that help you make websites, what do you think of static site generators (SSGs)? Have you ever used one?
I've heard of them but I don't really use them.
91. Do you keep a hitcounter? Why or why not?
I don't keep a hitcounter because I don't really see a need for one, nor do I have a place to put it.
92. Do you frequent forums? Which ones?
Besides the occassional Newgrounds forum post, not really.
93. Do you write your page content directly into the editor, or do you prepare it elsewhere, like a text document or a Word document?
I write my page directly in VS Code. I don't really see the point in rawdogging it in a .txt file when VS Code has features that help you write your HTML files (such as syntax highlighting).
94. Do you think you appear cool to others? A more accurate answer now: do other people ever say you're cool?
I don't know if people think I'm cool, but I do care a lot about not embarrasing myself online (maybe to an unhealthy degree, even).
95. Are you embarrassed of your old work? Have you ever deleted everything out of shame?
I am absolutely embarrased by a lot of my old work. I have deleted a LOT of stuff out of embarassment too.
96. Would you close down your website if you couldn't update it, or would you leave an archive?
I'd archive it. I made this site to consolidate my internet presence and I don't really see the point in closing it after all of that effort I went through to make the site work.
97. Do you reveal a lot about yourself on your website? Or are you more secretive?
I am very secretive of who I am (especially who I am in real life) for privacy reasons.
98. Are you willing to reveal who your best online friend is, and/or if they have a website?
I think all of my friends are awesome :D
99. And do you optimise the images on your website?
Not really, but I'll look into it.
100. We're out of time! How do you feel after answering 100 questions? ....other than exhausted.
Well, my back itches now. But thank you for reading! :D
